Norman – Last Night

Well we are nearing the end of the Norman run, but there is still time for you to get your tickets for Norman.  Please watch this great little film, it is a blend of silent comedy styles with Normans signature ‘pixelation techniques’. It really made me laugh and the man speaking is no other than Norman Mclaren himself!

Tonight is the opening night of the fantastic show Norman, which is at Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling from 3rd-5th of March.  Here is a great little blurb about the show:

Welcome to a fusion of dance, theatre and cinema, in which a dancer physically interacts with the cinematic universe of Canadian filmmaker Norman McLaren. The creations of McLaren have never come alive quite as they do in NORMAN, the newest mixmedia production from the co-artistic directors of 4D art, Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon. Via the magic of their virtual projection technology, 4D art invites the audience into McLaren’s universe. Rooted in the physical presence of performer and choreographer Peter Trosztmer, this one-man show, produced by 4D art in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada, becomes much more than simply an “homage” to Norman McLaren. It is a revelation of the creative mind. By means of interviews, of explorations of visuals and music, and also of live performance interacting with film, NORMAN reveals the power, modernity and humanism of this creative genius.

This show is honestly one of the most technically amazing live performances I have ever seen. The techniques are so fantastic that our technicians have been sworn to secrecy and have had to sign a disclaimer saying they will not give away the magic of the show.

If you are a student you can get a ticket for £5, if aged 12-17 it is only £2 so why not come along and watch a show unlike anything you have ever seen before.

This film won an Oscar in 1952. It really is fantastic, and awe-inspiring how talented Norman Mclaren was. Book your tickets for Norman a live multi-media show exploring the life and work of this Stirling born genius.

Begone Dull Care

It’s official, we are obsessed with Norman Mclaren and proud of it! This film was created by scratching directly onto the film strip, so that when played through a projector, it would look like animation.

We are screening this short film before Invictus on the 3rd of March to coincide with the show Norman, which is at macrobert from 3rd-5th of March. This is a show that fuses dance with projected animations in what I am describing as visual sorcery! (This is not an official term but I think it sounds magical).
If you like this animation leave us a comment! It would be great to know what you think!
