mmmmmmDINER…

Our lovely cafe-bar minus Elvis. As he could only visit us for the mFEST weekend 😦

After the huge success that was mFEST, macrobert café-bar has decided to keep their festival weekend change to mDINER in place for a trail run to October. So it’s your chance to sample some of the best American food in town and relax in our own 50s diner.

Come marvel at our newly decorated café-bar with vinyls on the wall, our menu painted on blackboard paint, red & white checked tablecloths and old-fashioned sauce bottles. While our ever friendly waiting staff serves you, looking gorgeous in their checked apron and new laid back uniforms.

And the food looks good too! We have nachos, hot wings, chilli bowl, hamburgers, and classic Caesar salad; to name just few options! Big hearty meals that are guaranteed to leave you satisfied.

Although if you are after something sweet then check out our yummy milkshakes which come in strawberry, chocolate and vanilla flavour. Or how about an ice cream float? Remember them? Now that takes me back! Nevertheless if you are looking for something more sickly then why not try our baked New York cheesecake or American pancakes served with maple syrup or berry compote. Oh there I go again, I’m drooling….

mDINER is open for breakfast everyday 9am -12pm. The main menu is served from 12pm – 9.45pm.  For more information or to book a table then phone café-bar on 01786 466610.

mFEST! One week to go!

There is so much going on!

The countdown to mFEST has begun! We are officially one week away! If you check out our lovely sister page www.m-fest.org you will see a shiny bold clock in the left hand corner of the page ticking away…

This week all macrobert staff received a festival briefing from the mPOWER team, with cupcakes! Which were lovely! We heard about all the exciting events and shows going on over the weekend and were given maps to see how the festival will be laid out. Remember entry to the university grounds is free and even if you don’t have much money there is a lot to keep you entertained. We have our free workshops, street theatre, merchandise stalls, open mic stage, new band stage, food stalls and circus games! Phew – how will you fit it all in?

We also had our lovely young volunteers in this week who all were given training in the relevant departments they will be working in over the weekend. For example volunteers will be working as technical runners, in our information hub or as venue ushers – to name a few jobs! We at the macrobet can’t wait to have their young cheery faces giving us some much needed help and us giving them some wonderful work experience.

Just to remind you if you have not already heard, the weekend festival passes have been slashed to half price! That’s £50 full / £42.50 concession / £35 under 18s. Plus you can now also buy a festival day pass for £10 which will allow you to see all access to all events on that day depending on availability at the time of the show. So it is first come, first served. Really this is unbelievable value for money!

One week to go macrobert friends! And we can’t wait!!

Two weeks to go!

At the macrobert we are all super excited, as It’s only two weeks to mFEST people! Not only are we super excited but we are extremely busy pulling together the final plans to bring Stirling its first festival programmed for and created by 12-17 year olds! mFEST runs the 30th July – 2nd August.

I am really looking forward to the festival as there is so much happening over the four days. Even though I will be working a lot of it, I hopefully will be able to fit in as many shows as possible. After going to T in the Park last weekend, it will be a nice change to go to a festival where the main focus isn’t just music. Even though music is included at mFEST, there is also drama, dance, comedy and film. So there really is an event for everyone and something is bound to tickle your fancy!

I am quite keen to go see Daniel Sloss (Friday 30th July). Sloss started doing stand up comedy when he was just 16 years old. Now 19 he is hailed as a comic prodigy and has written material for Frankie Boyle on BBC’S Mock the Week. His 2009 Edinburgh Fringe debut was a 100% sold out and he is returning to the Fringe again this year. Sloss is also currently developing a sitcom for the BBC and really seems to be an uprising star. So what better way to check him out first by attending mFEST? (Which for me is a bit closer to home than the Fringe).

My other pick for the weekend is Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra (Sunday 1st August).  Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra is an incredible 8-strong beatbox troupe. They make jaw-dropping music using nothing but their vocal cords, mixing inprovisation with intricate vocal routines. Shlomo’s solo work has earned him invitations to collaborate with some of the world’s leading artists such DJ Yoda, Bjork, Martha Wainwright, Hexstatic, Portico Quartet, Jarvis Cocker, Mad Professor. Shlomo can make magical music with his mouth, so brace yourself for an hour long voyage of lung busting acapella sound effects with the world’s biggest beatboxing troupe!

So as we pull the last minute bits and bobs together we are also praying at the macrobert that the sun shines in Stirling over mFEST making it even more of a great weekend!
