Easter at macrobert

We know how difficult it can be to keep the kids entertained over the holidays so we have lots lined up to help you out…

Don’t Look Down! – A performance skills workshop on physical comedy, laughter and creativity. Led by Plutôt La Vie Artists, this workshop is about exploring and creating good comedy and clowning. It’s about a state of being open, curious, playful and relaxed, without fear of failure. Includes a ticket to a performance of By the Seat of Your Pants.

DAFT – a film workshop working with our film artist using professional equipment to film a range of creative content and interviews throughout the week.

We also have plenty going on in the treehouse creche for ages 6 weeks – 12 years old including puppet maing, face painting and Easter activities, more information on these events here.

Also during the Easter holidays there are plenty family films such as Yogi Bear, Gnomeo & Juliet and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader plus amazing family live performances of Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play, By The Seat Of Your Pants, Chouf Ouchouf and the Puppet Animation Festival… there really is no need for anyone to have nothing to do!

Once upon a time….

Once upon a time,  Scotland came to a stand still because of the white fluffy stuff we call snow. This caused many a problem and people struggled to get to and from work, Ewan macrobert’s drama artist fell victim to this. Only he didn’t sit around and feel sorry for himself, he put on his creative head and wrote a song for all of us who could make it work to cheer us up. Along to the tune of Fairytale of New York by the Pogues, it goes like this….

Snowytale of macrobert

Stirling’s caked in snow,
So is Glasgow,
Dundee, Edinburgh and Fife…
And at the macbobby
Where Wallace once cried free,
The Airthrey Snowmen rise to stop us working.
They bust the ruddy pipes
Turned roads to sheets of ice
And freed kids from school
Left the teachers to freeze.
Now Panto’s cancelled
And the dame is greeting
As Snowmen wear her costumes
And the office resembles an igloo

But the staff at macbobby
They don’t give up easy
They’ve kicked up the thermo
It’s no place for the cold.
Tech’s fight the Snowmunsters with their bare-fisted knuckles They’ve promised that Panto will continue to show.
And the handsome and the pretty
Dame of Stirling city, when the Panto has finished They yelled out for more.
The young cast were swinging, the actors were singing Tech’s drink in a corner Then danced through the night

And the guys from the MYDC dance ‘til the Snowmen sweat and melt macbobby will never close, That’s them telt.

They’re cold and they’re icy
Sly, dodgy and dicey
Lying there waiting for feet to slip-slide Deranged and mutated Killers and monsters Happy Christmas your white arses, we pray it’s your last

And the guys from the MYDC dance ‘til the Snowmen sweat and melt macbobby will never close, That’s them telt.

Now all there’s left to say,
If snowmen come to stay
With you in your wee town
Is call macbobby.
Staff will fight the cause
Young ‘uns will heat their paws
Can’t make it out alone
We’ve built our shows around you.

And the guys from the MYDC dance ‘til the Snowmen sweat and melt macbobby will never close, that’s them telt.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas one and all! 🙂

What a festive treat….

Even with all this terrible weather, macrobert is open for business as usual despite the current weather conditions,  all shows and screenings are scheduled to take place. The roads on the university campus are cleared on a regular basis, but please check public transport schedules and road conditions prior to your travel. However, we don’t have the expertise to risk assess customer’s journey to macrobert, so please make sure to assess the weather situation ahead of your journey and give yourself plenty of time.

It is absolutely beautiful over here, just take a look at these photos! What’s even better is that you could stick on your wellies, come for a wee walk around the loch then join us at macrobert for a bowl of hot soup, a delicious hot chocolate and then see one of our three shows, Snow White of the Seven De’Wharffs is the panto this year, White is for the 0 -3 year olds and wait for it…. Mr Snow for the 3-5 year olds, what could be more appropriate than bringing the kids along, in the snow to meet Mr Snow who is a snowologist and looks at lots of different kinds of snow, from elephant snow and small snow to lightening snow and hot snow. It’s just so festive over this end so why not come and join us, make the most of the weather and be creative.

Concert in the memory of brave Stirling teenager

BIG names from the world of music, stage and screen are lined up to perform in a special, one-off concert inspired by a brave Stirling teenager.

Eilidh was 14 when she collapsed on a school trip last year, February 2009. A scan showed she had a tumour the size of a melon. Tests showed the tumour was malignant and that she also has a form of Turners Syndrome, a chromosomal disorder which occurs in 1 out of 2000 girls and is likely to have made Eilidh predisposed to Germ Cell Cancer in her ovaries. After numerous major surgeries and chemotherapy the cancer continued to spread and sadly on the 25th March 2010 at 5.30am Eilidh passed away.

Now, Eilidh’s family are putting together this fundraiser event in the hope to raise enough money to buy or build respite accommodation in the Stirling area for families touched by cancer. So let’s join together in the celebration of Eilidh with this fantastic line up and do your bit for The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund.

Come along to support, join in and celebrate with an exceptional evening bringing together some of Scotland’s finest talent, including headliners Jon Fratelli (The Fratellis and Codeine Velvet Club) and Billy Boyd (Lord Of The Rings), alongside Mark Cox and Jane Mcgarry of Still Game, with their very own brand of humour. A bunch of other well-known faces will guarantee an evening full of entertainment.

Check out the Stirling Observer to read an interview with Eilidh’s parents Nicole and Gordon.
