Avoid the rain! Showing this weekend.

John Travolta and Nikki Blonsky compare who has bigger hair...

It’s been a pretty wet and windy week eh? And at the macrobert we are all asking that question; where has the sunshine gone? A bit of bad news macrobert friends as heavy rain is forecast for the next 5 days! So if you don’t fancy standing in the rain at The Open in St. Andrews this weekend or watching the golf splashed across your TV (you know it will be); then come cosy yourself in our lovely filmhouse with some goodies and a hot drink.

First showing at the macrobert is the all singing, all dancing Hairspray (PG), its 1962 and pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton love watching the Corny Collins show. When the chance to dance on the show arrives, Tracy quickly takes the opportunity. Not only do her dancing skills attract Corny Collins, but also the attention of teenage heart throb, Link Larkin. But not everyone is happy with the decision to have her dance on the show. The show’s manager, Velma von Tussle will do anything to get Tracy off the show. However, Tracy decides that it’s not fair that the black kids can only dance on the Corny Collins Show once a month, and with the help of her friends she’s going to integrate the show…..without denting her ‘do! This is a totally feel good film for the weekend! Ready sing along ‘You can’t stop the beat…!’

Also showing is The Brothers Bloom (12A). The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they’ve decided to take on one last job – showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world. Mischief ensues as the brothers go on last con. In this eagerly anticipated film Rachael Weisz learned how to play piano, violin, accordion, and break-dance, to juggle, do karate, play Ping-Pong, banjo, unicycle, and even skateboard for her role as Penelope. Now there is talent!

For the kids we have Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back (U). Comet is a young tech-whiz chimp who longs to be taken seriously as a fully-fledged Space Chimp. He journeys to the far-away Planet Malgor and makes friends with a cute alien Kilowatt; but when the feared alien ruler Zartog takes over Mission Control, Comet must show he has the right stuff and join fellow chimps Ham, Luna and Titan to save the day. Chimps as astronauts? In space? Only at the macrobert!
